SNOWGUARD SOLVES

WINTER PROBLEM

The build up of snow on commercial roofs presents a significant problem to building owners and occupiers as it can eventually fall from the roof edge putting people below at risk of injury.

Now aluminium roofing specialists, M.R. Site Services has come up with Snowguard as a solution to this problem.

Designed for all standing seam roofs Snowguard is an extruded aluminium section in lengths up to 3 metres long, which is affixed to the standing seams using a clever clip system. This is an aluminium component in two parts, which clips over the standing seams, is non-penetrative and thus ensures that the roof remains watertight.  Snowguard is thus lightweight and quick to install all along the roof edge and prevents snow from slipping off the roof with its dangerous consequences.

To assist customers with the application of Snowguard to particular roofs, M.R. Site Services has developed a software package to help customers calculate the correct specification of Snowguard required by taking into account the pitch of the roof, the length of the roof sheets, the geographical location and thus the potential snow load in ten years.  Snowguard has been designed to conform to BS 6399-3: 1988 which considers the snow loads on roofs in various conditions.

Snowguard has already been successfully used on a number of roofing projects by M.R. Site Services throughout England and Scotland including the Diamond Light Source Synchrotron science building in Oxfordshire where 720 metres has been installed around the circumference of this innovative circular building, and Motherwell Shopping Centre where 500 metres is utilised.

As part of M.R. Site ServicesÕ Quantum range of roofing products, Snowguard joins walkways, access hatches and the roll-a-flex sealing system, all manufactured by the company.
